Official Press Release

- POULIN LEADS THE SCHOOL PAST THE KNIGHTS 9-4 -

8/13/03- Tim Poulin put on a show for the Guppies faithful last night scoring four times in the first half and setting the tone early as the Guppies steam rolled the Knights. As they did all night, the line of Poulin, Marc Crayton, Dan Pequita, and John Carroll just dominated the play and had the Knights on the heals as they struggled to clear out the kitchen. Poulin (4-1-5) would score first off of a Crayton pass (3-2-5) to give the Guppies the 1-0 lead. Poulin would score again to make it 2-0 when Pequita (1-3-4) made a great pass from the point. A few seconds later the Guppies would strike again as Crayton finished a two on one opportunity with Poulin. The Guppies would add to their lead before the Knights scored the first of the night off a Guppies defensive lapse. The Knights found some life scoring a few seconds later to make it a 4-2 game. However, Poulin gave the Guppies the three goal lead as he walked in from the left corner and beat the Knights netminder. In the closing seconds of the first half the two teams exchanged goals giving the Guppies a commanding 6-3 lead heading into the second half. To open the Second Half the Knights made one final push scoring early to make it a two goal lead again. It would remain 6-4 until the middle of the half when Robert Murphy (1-0-1) scored off a nice feed from Tom Mierkiewicz (0-2-2). Crayton would add to more goals to complete the Guppies victory. Joseph Linskey was again solid between the pipes for the Gupps stopping 16 out of the 20 Knights opportunities. His best save came late in the first when he dove across to rob Knights forward M. Zuba of a sure goal. The Guppies face the Knights again next Wednesday night at 10pm as the team teams face off for the second half of their home and home series.

SIDE NOTES:
- Marc Crayton and the Guppies front office have resolved last weeks incident. Both sides refused to comment but it is rumored that Crayton had to pay a fine and warned not to let it happen again. Many had speculated that Crayton might lose his "A" and that Rob Murphy would be named an Assistant Captain.
-Tim Poulin's 4 goals in last nights game was close to the record of the most goals scored by a Guppy in one game. The record is 6 and was set on Sept 12, 2002 by Brian Kelly vs Team Aloi.
-The Killingworth Guppies would like to acknowledge the life and career of Herb Brooks. Brooks spent most of his life promoting and teaching the game of hockey. Herb Brooks is best known for coaching the 1980 Olympic team that won the gold medal and performed the "Miracle on Ice" over the Soviets. His death this week is a great lose not only to USA Hockey but the entire Hockey world.
