Official Press Release

- A LONG NIGHT FOR THE KNIGHTS; GUPPIES WIN 9-4 -

Glastonbury, CT July 23rd, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies summer 2003 season.

7/30/03- The Killingworth Guppies faced off against an undermanned Knights team Wednesday night and came away with a solid victory. The two teams played end to end hockey with several spectacular saves by both netminders. However, just past the five minute mark of the first half the Guppies struck as Rob Murphy (2-3-5) took a pass from Tom Mierkiewicz (0-1-1) and scored off a shot from the top of the right hand circle. A few minutes later Brian Kelly (3-1-4) took a Joe Linskey (0-1-1) rebound and went coast to coast to give the Guppies a two goal lead. Tim Poulin (2-3-5) scored the next two Guppies goals off of passes from Murphy and Dan Pequita (0-3-3). Linskey was strong in net stone walling the Knights at every turn. At the Half the Guppies were in control, leading 4-0, and ready to continue their dominate play in the Second Half. Marc Crayton (2-0-0) scored his first of the night early in the second half as he buried a pass from Pequita to the lower left side of the net. The Guppies continued to swarm around the Knights net as Murphy scored his second of the night. The Guppies looked unstoppable as Crayton was again the beneficiary of a great Pequita pass giving the Gupps the 7-0 lead. Kelly would score a few minutes later on a two on one with Murphy to give the Guppies a 8-0 lead. However, the wheels fell of the Guppies Bandwagon late in the Second as Defensive lapses allowed the Knights to score 4 goals in the final five minutes of the game. "The guys were all thinking about offense and not so worried about our own end as the game went on" Stated Guppies Captain Brian Kelly " Its a concern" . Despite the late surge the Guppies lead proved to be to much for the Knights. The Guppies face off next week August 6th at 10pm vs the Biohazard.
