- B-LEAGUE
FINALS; GAME ONE GOES TO THE KILLINGWORTH GUPPIES 9-3-
9/21/03- The Killingworth Guppies faced off against the Knights on Sunday
afternoon for game one of the B-league Championship. The Knights had knocked
off the Biohazard earlier in the day for the chance to face the Gupps
in the Finals. The Knights came out strong as the two teams went back
and fourth early on. The Guppies would strike first when Tim Poulin (4-1-5)
was the beneficiary of a Rob Murphy (2-5-7) pass. Thomas Mierkiewicz (1-0-1)
would make it 2-0 when he knocked in a Dan Pequita (0-2-2) shot from the
point. The Knights would come back as Zuba scored his first of the night
only seconds after Mierkiewicz's tally. Murphy would score the next two
Guppies goals scoring 38 seconds apart, the first coming at the 8:59 mark
of the first and the second coming at 8:21. The Gupps continued the pressure
and the goals as Poulin scored a pair late in the first to give him the
early hat trick. The Knights tried to pull themselves back into the game
when Dupuis scored with just 7seconds remaining in the half. The Guppies
however, were in command as they game out in the second looking to add
to their 6-2 lead. Midway through the second the Gupps would start to
bury the Knights as Brian Kelly (2-1-3) finished a pair from Murphy. Late
in the half Tim Poulin would end the Guppies scoring as he buried a pass
from John Carroll (0-1-1). The Knights would score again with just over
.10 seconds remaining as Joseph Linskey wasn't able to handle the 5th
rebound. Linskey was again solid in net for the Guppies as they rolled
to their 11th Straight victory. Game 2 is Saturday Sept. 27 at 12:30pm.
Game 3 is scheduled for 1:30pm on Sept. 27 (if necessary). A limited amount
of seats are still available for both games.
