Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT June 6, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2004 season.
6/6/04 The Killingworth Guppies looked to wrap up first place in the B-league as they came out for Sunday's game. To do it they would have to beat the current fourth place Blu Baz. The Game was not the match up the Guppies had hoped for, with the Baz only having five players. The Guppies quickly took control of the game controlling the flow and scoring as Dan Pequita (2-1-3) scored his first of the night. However, the Blu Baz would tie the game at one before Pequita would score his second of the afternoon. The Game took an ugly twist when a player for the Blu Baz high sticked Guppies defenseman Rob Murphy in the face. The penalty was a major and was also a game misconduct leaving the short handed Blue Baz with only three skaters.
In the Second Half the Guppies turned up the pressure as the Blu Baz started to run out of steam. Tim Poulin (2-1-3)scored his first of the night as Poulin, Pequita, and Brian Kelly (1-3-4) moved the ball around well. Jason Zito(1-1-2) added to the Guppies lead finishing a pass from Robert Murphy (1-2-3). The Guppies continued to dominated the undermanned Baz as Kelly and Marc Crayton (1-0-1) each scored their first of the night. Late in the Second half the Blu Baz tried to start some offense but they were turned aside each time by Joseph Linskey (0-1-1). The Guppies were crashing the net when Dave Armenia (1-0-1) scored from the lower slot. With the Mercy win well in sight the Guppies continued to attack. Murphy scored when he finished a pass from Zito. Carroll would also score a minute later as he picked up a rebound in the slot and spun around beating the Baz netminder on his backhand. The Guppies scoring would be rounded out when Linskey pass the ball up to Kelly who fed Poulin on the right side of the Blue Baz net. The Guppies finish up the regular season on Wednesday night as they face off against The Panthers. The Panthers gave the Guppies a scare last time they played when it took overtime to decide the game. Wednesday should be just as exciting, game time is 8pm.
