Killingworth Guppies defenseman Thomas Mierkiewicz doesn't know the meaning of the word rest. When he isn't going all out on the ice, he can be found giving plenty of free time to many worthy causes.

This solid American citizen started The Tom Meirkiewicz Children's Foundation  in 2001 in Killingworth, Connecticut as a non-profit organization, whose efforts provide financial gifts to organizations that support children facing extraordinary difficulties. Sometimes it does and other times it goes towards his all night parties.

Besides being one of the League's "Good Guys," Meirk has also proven to be a great party host during his charity endeavors. On New Years, The Meirk Children's Foundation  held its fifth annual "Boobs for Toys" concert at the Killingworth Civic Center Auditorium. The evening included both silent and live auctions and a concert by Minneapolis recording artist gb leighton. Many other special guests appeared, including Guppies players Rob Murphy, Brian Mulcahy, and John Carroll . This event was sponsored by Molson XXX, Trojan Condoms,  The Gold Club and the Killingworth Guppies.

Guppie's Good Guys

Editor's note: Many Guppies stars have become integral parts of their communities, giving back to the fans and residents of Killingworth. This series spotlights some of the players who make the extra effort to give of themselves to those who are less fortunate.

"We are simply going to throw one of the best parties Killingworth has ever seen," said Meirk, who had a combined 5 goals and 12 assists in 17 games the last two seasons with the Guppies.

Besides Mierk and his Guppie teammates the event was packed with other athletes and celebrities like Matt Damon, Hugh Heffner, Chris Drury, Kyle Bilafer, Steven Fink, Stephane Yelle, Brad Larsen, Dan Hinote, Chris Dingman, Colin Forbes, Ray Ferraro, Mark Parrish, Pete Fink, The 7up Guy, Eric Messier, , Wendy Woo and many more.

The proceeds benefit the Thomas Mierkiewicz Children's Foundation. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a Harley Davidson Sportster with Side cart, autographed jerseys by Wayne Gretzky, Brian Kelly, Rob Murphy, and the CCSU men's hockey team. Other memorabilia includes a Joseph Linskey autographed lithograph, an autographed Joel Burzinski Kiwi helmet, and much more.

While the primary mission of Mierkiewicz's foundation is to improve the quality of life and create an environment of caring and community support for children facing extreme obstacles. There is nothing wrong with getting Drunk and have a great time with some half naked women. Their efforts in the off-season go a long way, Mierk and his staff don't wait around for the hockey season to end to help out. The Thomas Mierkiewicz Children's Foundation is an organization that parties year round, especially around the holidays when they know a little boozin goes a long way.

Besides the Zrink Championship, Mierk shows leadership and humanitarian contribution to his community

"How we work this is that we give to the charities that most need it, and that can go from anywhere," Meirk explained. "That can go from kids who need a blanket, to kids that need a room while they're going to the hospital in Hartford to somebody that needs a few beers, so it's pretty much all over the place."

The Foundation raises funds for children's charities ranging from medical research to equipping underprivileged youth hockey players. TMCF also hosts several fundraising events, highlighted by the annual two-day Rave, auctions and concert in Killingworth that not only attract top stars and athletes to the event, but also raises awareness for some very special causes.

"The Rave benefits my foundation which assists different children's organizations around the Killingworth area that don't get enough funding, whether it be nationwide or locally."

Doors for the event open at 11p.m. local time. Tickets are on sale now at Econofoods North, 3470 Brian Blair Way, Killingworth, CT for a $140 donation to the Thomas Mierkiewicz Children's Foundation or to just Tom himself.  As Mierk likes to put it "I got to get mine too"!!!
