Official Press Release

- GUPPIES FIN SLAP THE BLUE DEVILS 9-0!!! -

Glastonbury, CT May 21, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies spring 2003 season.

5/21/03- After suffering their first loss in 2 years last week many people around Killingworth and the nation wondered how the Guppies would respond! Well, the answer came quick and often as the Guppies took out their frustrations from last weeks game out on the Blue Devils. Marc Crayton (4-1-5) started off what would be a career night for the Guppies forward burying a pass from Rob "Playboy" Murphy(1-2-3). The Guppies would strike again 9 seconds later when Tom Mierkiewicz (2-0-2) would bury his first of night. Crayton and Brian Kelly(1-2-3) each scored goals as The Guppies turned up the heat on the Blue Devils. Mierk would make it 5-0 early in the first half when he received a Brian Mulcahy(0-4-4) pass and fired a quick shot into the net. The Guppies controlled the play tonight keeping the Devils locked in their zone. Tom Mierkiewicz believed the defensive pairings played a big part of it "Me and Johnny, we work well together, Kelly and Murphy I just can't play with those guys" Murphy seemed to like the new pairing as well "I don't like Mierk!" Actually that might have more to do with the "Playboy" story before the game. Tim Poulin(1-2-3) would finish a pass from Dave Armenia(0-2-2) giving the Gupps an impressive 6-0 lead. The Gupps would score three more goals before the Game was ended early because the Blue Devils felt they were wronged by an officials call. With 5:11 remaining in the game the Devils quit the game. Joseph Linskey was the star of the game playing out of his mind stopping all 17 of the Blue Devils shots and earning his third career shut out. Linskey's most impressive save came when he stop Blue Devil's defenseman Ed Kelley on a breakaway early in the second. The Guppies face off next Wednesday night at 7pm against the Knights. In their last meeting the Gupps beat the Knights 10-8.

Side Notes:
- Jason Zito was a healthy scratch, he went to the Yanks-Red Sox game, what Dedication!!!
-Brian Mulcahy's four assist came close to the Team record. Brian already holds the assist recorded of 5, he recorded the record Dec 6, 2002 vs the Red Army.
-Joe's shut out was his third in a Guppies uniform, his last regular season shut out was on August 18, 1996 vs the spiders; score 7-0
-Despite his Five point Game Crayton seemed to have a problem with his stick and with getting over the boards Wed night.
