- GUPPIES BURN THE BLUE DEVILS 9-6 -

Glastonbury, CT June 18th, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies spring 2003 season.

6/18/03-The Killingworth Guppies rounded out the Spring 2003 regular season last night as they faced off against the Blue Devils. With a win the Guppies would secure the second seed in the B-league playoffs. Marc Crayton was again in the Guppies net as Joseph Linskey is still battling a nasty paper cut to his right thumb. The Guppies came out flying and Rob Murphy(2-4-6) was leading the way scoring the first two Guppie goals unassisted. Tim Poulin(3-0-3), in his first game back since his shoulder injury, would score off a great pass from Murphy to make it a 3-0 game midway through the first half. "The shoulder was a bit stiff in warm ups but as the game went on it felt great" stated Poulin in the post game press conference. Tom Mierkiewicz agreed "Tim just got better as the game went on, it's great to have him back for the playoffs" The Devils would cut the lead to 3-1 when Brian "Fong" Mulcahy(3-0-3) scored his first of the night. John Carroll (1-1-2) would continue to give the Devils all they could handle burying a "Laser" from the point. The Devils would fight back to make it a 5-2 game at the half. In the Second the Gupps came out fast as Mulcahy scored his second of the night off of a pass from Carroll. Meanwhile the Welcome Back party for Poulin continued as he tipped in a great pass from Murphy, only seconds later Mulcahy added his third of the night. The Guppies were swarming but the Blue Devils weren't dead yet. Despite some great saves by Crayton the Devils would score the next four goals to make it a 8-6 game with just 3:45 remaining. However, Tim Poulin would send them home a few minutes later scoring his third of the night off of a blast from the top of the circles. The Guppies will face off in the first round of the playoffs next Wednesday, June 25th, at 10pm.
