- GUPPIES BURN THE BLUE DEVILS 9-6 - Glastonbury, CT June 18th, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies spring 2003 season. 6/18/03-The Killingworth Guppies rounded out the Spring
2003 regular season last night as they faced off against the Blue Devils.With
a win the Guppies would secure the second seed in the B-league playoffs.
Marc Crayton was again in the Guppies net as Joseph Linskey is still battling
a nasty paper cut to his right thumb. The Guppies came out flying and
Rob Murphy(2-4-6) was leading the way scoring the first two Guppie goals
unassisted. Tim Poulin(3-0-3), in his first game back since his shoulder
injury, would score off a great pass from Murphy to make it a 3-0 game
midway through the first half. "The shoulder was a bit stiff in warm
ups but as the game went on it felt great" stated Poulin in the post
game press conference. Tom Mierkiewicz agreed "Tim just got better
as the game went on, it's great to have him back for the playoffs"
The Devils would cut the lead to 3-1 when Brian "Fong" Mulcahy(3-0-3)
scored his first of the night. John Carroll (1-1-2) would continue to
give the Devils all they could handle burying a "Laser" from
the point. The Devils would fight back to make it a 5-2 game at the half.
In the Second the Gupps came out fast as Mulcahy scored his second of
the night off of a pass from Carroll. Meanwhile the Welcome Back party
for Poulin continued as he tipped in a great pass from Murphy, only seconds
later Mulcahy added his third of the night. The Guppies were swarming
but the Blue Devils weren't dead yet. Despite some great saves by Crayton
the Devils would score the next four goals to make it a 8-6 game with
just 3:45 remaining. However, Tim Poulin would send them home a few minutes
later scoring his third of the night off of a blast from the top of the
circles. The Guppies will face off in the first round of the playoffs
next Wednesday, June 25th, at 10pm. They will be playing the third seeded
Biohazard, the two teams have split their season meetings with each team
winning a game 7-5. Playoff Tickets are on sale now at the Killingworth
