Guppies Shut Down Mean Machine 9-7!

Glastonbury, CT May 30, 2012. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2012 season.

05/30/2012- Wednesday night presented an opportunity for the Killingworth Guppies, It was a chance to put an awful Spring season behind them and start the new season on a winning note. However, in front of them was last session's Regular season champs, Mean Machine! The Machine owned the Guppies last season as they posted a 4-0 recorded against them and out scored them 28-14. Things didn't start well as the MM jumped out to a 1-0 lead, at this point the Guppies faithful were nervous their beloved Fish were about to flushed....but.... The Guppies answered! First it was Brian Mulcahy (0-2-2) making a great pass on a 2-1 to Keith Millen (3-1-4). Then it was Mulcahy again, this time finding Brian Blair (1-1-2) for the Guppies first lead of the day. At this point, the play became chippie and stick swinging became the norm. Eventually, it led to Rob Murphy (0-1-1) catching a stick to the face and a Guppy's Power Play. On the PP, Tim Poulin (2-4-6) skated the puck into the Machine's zone and made a great pass to Dan Pequita (2-2-4) for a "tap in" goal. Minutes later it was Pequita scoring again to give the Fish the 4-1 lead at the half.

If you're a Guppies fan (or hater) then you know that NO Guppies lead is safe! If Mean Machine didn't know this, they know it now! The Machine rattled off the next three goals to tie the game at four. With the game tied midway thru the Second Half both teams picked up their play. It was the Guppies who would regain the lead as Brian Kelly (0-3-3) passed the puck out of the corner to Poulin, who sniped a shot Top Cheese! Seconds later it was Murphy finding Millen for the Two goal lead. The Machine didn't quit and kept the pressure on Greg Marshall (0-1-1) and the Guppies. After MM scored to make it a one goal game,   Dave Armenai (1-0-1) took a rebound, spun around, and fired it into the Machine's net. Again the MM answered but, When Poulin one touched a clearing attempt onto Millen stick for the Guppies 8th goal, the writing seemed to be on the wall. The Guppies weren't going to let this one get away. Tim Poulin put the final nail in the coffin off a great pass for Mulcahy and it was official....Guppies Win 9-7!

The Guppies hope Wednesday nights victory is a sign of things to come. Next week's game time and opponent have yet to be released by the league. Please check back for updates.

SIDE NOTES:

- Guppie's netminder Greg Marshall sported his lucky "Southern CT State University" Sleeveless tee shirt post game. Suns out Guns out!!

- After much debate on wether or not he would show up for the game, Tim Poulin walked into the rink at puck drop. A lot of people lost money on that bet!

- Some Guppie players were seen late night celebrating their win at the Diamond.

- Tim Poulin announced he's coming out with a new workout video for women. The program is called "7Minute Arms and Shoulders" it will focus on women who are looking to bulk up in both areas. Good luck Pooh!
