Guppies Cough Up Four Goal Lead; Lose 9-8 (OT)!

Glastonbury, CT July 25, 2012. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2012 season.

07/25/2012- It was the Tale of "TWO HALFS" Wednesday night as the Guppies faced off  against the Saints in their final meeting of the regular season. The Guppies would strike first as Keith Millen (4-2-6) scored with his patented "5-Hole" shot. I'm serious he has a filing with the US Patent Office for that move. The Guppies continued to roll as Dan Pequita (2-0-2) scored his first of night. Millen was at it again with "the move" to make it 3-0 Guppies, late in the First Half. Tim Poulin (1-0-1) would score to give the Guppies a commanding 4-0 lead! Not to be lost in this offensive output would be the fact that Greg Marshall stood on his head in the First Half of the game. Marshy turned in one of his better efforts in Guppies blue on this night. Shot stats weren't available because the score keeper was preoccupied by .....Something? in the scores box. Any ways, in the final seconds of the Half the Saint's finally beat Marshall to make it 4-1.

Things didn't start well for the Fish in the Second Half, as the Saints scored 14 seconds in. The Guppies tried to regain control of the game as Millen scored a horrific goal from a bad angle. Un phased by "the softie" that their netminder had given up the Saints began their march, scoring to make it a 2 goal game again. The Guppies tried to separate themselves from the oncoming Saints as Millen and Brian Mulcahy (1-0-1)scored .19 seconds apart. However, the Saints kept on coming and rattled off FIVE straight goal, in eight minutes, to take a 8-7 lead late in the Half. The Guppies and their faithful looked rattled! The Fish had gone into a defensive cocoon and it cost them their Four Goal lead! The Gupps scrambled late in the half  to get the tying goal, when Pequita got the puck in the High slot and fire a shot to the upper right side of the net.....Game Tied at 8! The two teams struggled to get the winner in regulation but the goalies forced the game into Over Time!

In the OT, the Guppies came out quick looking to secure the victory. They were thwarted on their initial rush and the play went the other way. Later, as the Fish were looking to move the puck of their zone, Brian Kelly (0-1-1) mishandled a pass and try to backhand the puck to the boards. The Pass was picked off and the Saint's beat Marshy for the game winner.....9-8 Saints!

The Guppies finish up the regular season next week at 8pm vs the Mean Machine. The playoffs will start the following week. Check back often for Ticket info and game times.

- The Guppies had a Full Roster Wed night.

- The Saint's were short handed but they signed Jeff "Chili" Chillson for the game. Chili grew to fame after his stint with the BKI Hockey  Ft Laudie Tournament back in 2010. Chillson ripped through the Guppies defense on this night, leading the Saints to victory.
