Guppies Escape The Hurleys 6-3

Glastonbury, CT June 27, 2012. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2012 season.

06/27/2012- Wednesday night the Hurleys looked to redeem themselves after the Guppies "Fin slapped" them in a game a few weeks ago 11-1! However, it was the Guppies who came out flying, peppering the Hurleys net early and often. They weathered the storm and then made the most of their opportunities, beating Guppies netminder Greg Marshall (39 saves, 42 shots) on the first shot he faced. Immediately after the goal Marshy commented "I guess I got the 30-Pack next week?!" Correct you are Mr. Marshall! With that goal, The Hurleys took control of the game as the Guppies seemed to forget how to score goals. It wasn't till late in the half that Guppies would get on the board as Brian Mulcahy (3-0-3) took a rebound, then patiently skated across the low slot and roofed a shot over the sprawled netminder. The Hurleys quickly answered scoring the go ahead goal only .05 seconds after Mulcahy's tally. The Guppies went on the power play minutes later. With the man advantage the Guppies went to work. Eventually it was Tim Poulin (1-1-2) finding Brian Kelly (1-2-3), who walked in and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net. Again, the Hurleys would answer and they would take the 3-2 lead into the Half.

The Guppies found themselves on the Power Play again as they started the Second Half. The Fish would cash in quickly on the man advantage as Dan Pequita (0-1-1) found Poulin.....Game tied at Three! That goal seemed to spark the Guppies offense as they seemed to generate more opportunities! Minutes later it was Brian Blair (0-1-1) and Keith Millen (1-1-2) crashing the Hurleys net and poking in a loose puck into the net. The Gupps fifth goal was a thing of beauty as Millen and Mulcahy hooked up on a give an go play which led to Mulcahy scoring into a wide open net. The Guppies would seal the deal when Kelly fired a pass the length of the dek to Mulcahy, who was camped out in the Hurleys zone. "The Pebble" took the pass and fired it past the goalie for his first Hat Trick of the season!

The Guppies have a week off for the the 4th of July! They have a Double Header the following week against the Saints and Mean Machine starting at 7pm! Tickets are on sale for this event....however they are limited.
