|Official Press Release|
Glastonbury, CT June 13, 2012. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2012 season.
06/13/2012- Wednesday night the Guppies faced the Saints as the two teams looked to grab an early lead in the league standings. The Saints have owned the Guppies as of late, posting a 4-0 record last session against the Fish while out scoring them 27-14. The Saints jumped all over the Guppies early in the game. At some points the Guppies looked like someone had cut their heads off as they swam around their own zone aimlessly. Luckily Greg Marshall (42 Shots; 40 Saves) was there to save the Guppies from themselves. However, midway thru the half the Saints would finally beat Marshall as they converted on a 2-1. With the lead theirs, the Saints continued to pressure Marshall and the Guppies defense but were thwarted time and time again. Finally, the Guppies got some offense when Keith Millen (2-1-3) found Rob Murphy (1-3-4) on the point. Murph fired a rising shot into the Saints net tying the game at one. However, the tie was short lived as the Saints tapped in a (mid air) rebound past a sprawling Marshall. The Guppies managed to escape the Half down by only one based solely on the play of their goaltender.
The Zrink was like an Oven, set at 400degrees, as management claimed they forgot how to turn on the A/C. Hopefully, they'll solve that dilemma soon. The heat is a known enemy of middle aged men everywhere, which favored the younger Saints team in the Second Half. However, it was the Guppies that struck first as Murphy fired a long pass to Millen, who then walked in and beat the Saints goalie....game tied at Two!! Only seconds later, Brian Blair (2-0-2) buried a Dan Pequita (0-1-1) rebound, giving the Guppies their first lead of the night! The Guppies started to control the play as the Saints started to let the game get away from them. Keith Millen scored again to give the Fish some much needed breathing room midway thru the Half. Marshall continued to frustrate the Saints offense with save after save (including a nice double stacked pad save...Marty Brodeur style). Late in the game Tim Poulin (0-1-1) cycled the puck to Murphy deep in the Saints zone. Murph skated out of the corner and found Blair camped in front of the Saints net. Across came the pass which Blair tapped in and the Guppies victory was secured.
