Fintastic! Gupps Mercy Hurleys 11-1!

Glastonbury, CT June 6, 2012. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2012 season.

06/06/2012- Wednesday night the Guppies faced off against a familiar foe from the past: The Hurleys! Killingworth was looking to win their second straight game to start the young season 2-0. Things didn't start well for our beloved heros! The Hurleys scored first as a shot deflected in front of Greg Marshall and into the Guppies net. The Guppies were quick to answer as Brian Kelly (3-2-5) picked up a gift in the high slot then fired a shot into the net. The Guppies took the lead for good when Brian Blair (1-1-2) circled below the Hurleys net and made a great pass to Tim Poulin (1-2-3)....GOAL! Minutes later Blair tipped a Marc Crayton (1-2-3) pass over a bewildered Hurley's netminder. The Guppies kept the pressure on and this time it was Rob Murphy (1-4-5) burying his first of the season. The Guppies rounded out the First Half when Murph setup Keith Millen (2-2-4) for the 5-1 lead!

The Fish found themselves on the Power Play to start the Second Half. Killingworth moved to puck around well on the man advantage, then Murph fed Kelly for the "One Timer", 6-1 Guppies! Dan Pequita (2-2-4) got himself on the board when he scored an unassisted goal, giving the Guppies a 7-1 lead. The Gupps controlled the play most of the night and looked like they rolled back the clock at times. "They were chasing us around tonight" stated Dave Armenai "The last few seasons we've been the ones running around. It was a nice change of pace!". The Guppies looked to wrap up the game with a Mercy victory as they rattled off the next four goals! First Kelly went "Top Cheese", then Millen went "5-hole", followed by a low stick side goal by Pequita, and finally it was Crayton chipping in the 11th, set, match!!

Next week the Guppies will face-off against the defending Champion Saints! This should be a good one as the Saint's have always played the Guppies strong. Not to mention, Mulcahy will be back in the lineup....maybe a second dance is in the making...we'll see...9pm Wednesday night. Limited Tickets are available.

- Brian Mulcahy served a one game suspension Wed night.

- The last time the Hurleys faced off against the Guppies was 4/6/11, a 8-7 Guppies Win

- A new rule will be voted on next week. The "Mercy Goal Rule". There has been a proposal that the player that scored the "Mercy" goal will be responsible to purchase the 30-Pack the following week. The Mercy Goal would trump all others (First Goal, First Penalty, or Goal in the first 3 shots).
