Official Press Release

Poulin's Five Goals Lead Guppies to victory 7-6!

Glastonbury, CT August 15, 2006. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2006 season.

8/15/2006- Thursday night the Guppies faced off against the Ball Smasher for the battle for first place. Despite the importance of the game the Ball Smasher were minus their goalie at game time and had to play with five skaters against the Guppies four.  With the net empty the Guppies took a passive approach on shooting on net. This was a tactic that almost cost them the game late in the second half. By the time the Smasher's net minder arrived the Guppies were up 4-1!  Tim Poulin, (Yeah, I said Tim Poulin! I guess Timmy just decided to show up for a game after missing the last two weeks) scored his third goal of the night soon after to give the Guppies the 5-1 lead. The Smasher's would make it 5-2 before Poulin (5-0-5) scored again to give the Guppies the 6-2 lead at the half.

In the Second half the Guppies continued to roll along when Dan Pequita (0-1-1) found Poulin yet again for his fifth goal of the night. Most of the Second half was a goaltending clinic as both goalies turned in solid performances. However, with just over 5 minutes remaining the Ball Smasher's would beat Linskey to make it a 7-3 game. What happened next has many in "Guppie's Nation" shaking their heads in disbelief. Joe Linskey stated in a pregame interview that he would "do anything I can to make sure we (the Guppies) lose this game". It was the normal Linskey pregame banter, but on this night it actually looked like he was going to pull it off.  With .19 seconds remaining the Smasher's scored to make it 7-4! Then with .04 remaining the Smasher's scored to make it 7-5!! One might think Linskey was done......oh no.....With .01 second remaining Joe gave up yet another goal. However the Guppies won 7-6!  In a post game interview Linskey was asked what happened, In which he replied "We ran out of time! If I ten more seconds I could have lost that game for sure"  At least he makes it interesting folks!!

The Guppies wrap the regular season next week in a "West Coast" game against District 5. No worries Guppy fans, Linskey will be unable to attend as Jon Graney gets the nod. A small amount of Tickets are available. The game will also be televised on Fox Sports SouthWest!

SIDE NOTES:

- Marc Crayton was a healthy scratch Tuesday.

- Rob Murphy was a "no show" Tuesday night. Forgoing his Guppie commitments to play softball...... I think I speak for all in Guppie Nation when I say "Thanks Murph!". Guppies forward Keith Millen was quick to point out that maybe Murphy doesn't deserve the "A" on the sweater. He also mentioned he'd be a great assistant captain.

- Brian Mulcahy has reassured the Guppies front office that Guppie updates will soon be available on the new "ESPN Phone".  Mulcahy mentioned that he was "working on it" in a post game interview.
