Ball Smashers Bounce Past Guppies 5-4!

Glastonbury, CT July 25, 2006. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2006 season.

7/25/2006- Tuesday night the Guppies stepped out on the Dek for there contest against the Ball Smashers. However, in the short distance from the locker room to the rink the Guppies lost their game somewhere. Many of the fans in attendance had to take a double look at their tickets after watch what was by far the worse half of hockey in Guppies history. "I'm hoping the team will giving me a refund after forcing me to watch that crap" shouted one Guppies fan who left midway through the Second Half of the game. Gupps forward Marc Crayton agreed with the fans " We were horrible tonight. Our passing was off, our defensive play was off, and we couldn't hit the net" The only bright spot? Jon Graney! Graney kept the Guppies in the game all night but he was especially good during the First Half as the Guppies were grossly out played! The Ball Smashers would eventually score on a great individual effort from B. Miller. Luckily, The Guppies would "escape" the First Half being down only 1-0 despite their awful play.

In the Second Half the Fish fought back and things looked up when Keith Millen (1-1-2) scored to tie the game at one. However, the Ball Smashers would take advantage of the Guppies defense and scored the next two goals to take the 3-1 lead. The Guppies tried to swim back into the game when Tim Poulin (0-2-2) set up Brian Kelly (2-1-3) in the low slot for the Guppies second goal of the night. However, less than a minute later the Smashers would regain the two goal lead.  Midway thru the Half the Gupps would go on the Power Play which led to Kelly's second goal of the night. The Smashers scored again to take the 5-3 lead. The Guppies made a final push as Dan Pequita (1-1-2) scored to make it 5-4 with just over three minutes remaining. In the final minutes the Guppies kept to pressure on but were unable to get the equalizer.....Ball Smashers Win!!

The Guppies schedule doesn't get any easier as they face off against a red hot District 5 hockey team next Tuesday night (8/1). D-5 has recently beaten the Ball Smashers and Fire Ants to turn their season around. Game time is 8pm and tickets are still available.

- Jason Zito was a healthy scratch on Tuesday night.

- Keith Millen scored the Guppies first goal on Tuesday night which earned him the right to purchase the 30-pack for a record setting third week in a row.
