Duck Tails: D-5 Struggles Continue in Guppies 5-1 Win!
Glastonbury, CT July 11, 2006. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2006 season.
7/11/2006- It's been a tough time for the District 5 hockey club over the past few weeks. They have started to the Summer 2006 season with an 0-3 recorded after a tough Spring 2006 season. To add insult to injury the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have recently changed there their name to the Anaheim Ducks. Of course District 5 has always had a strong ties with the Mighty Ducks organization and the Disney movies that bare the same name. "It's been tough, it's like a part of us has died" explained one D-5 player. However, Tuesday night the rejected and still grieving D-5 team took to the dek to face off against the Killingworth Guppies. The District came out flying taking control of the game early as the Guppies swam around Joe Linskey looking and hoping for calm water ahead. The Gupps managed to get thru the rapids and slowly started to take control of the game. Just past the mid point of the Half, the Guppies would convert on a Power play, when Keith Millen (2-1-3) and Dave Armenia (0-1-1) scored on a 2-on-1 in the low slot. The Guppies defense was solid as the District faced several 1-on-2 scoring opportunities. "When the Defense plays like that, it makes my job that much easier" stated Linskey "With guys like Pequita and Kelly on defense all the time I'm use to facing a lot of odd man opportunities". With just over two minutes remaining Brian Mulcahy (1-1-2) would find Millen, who would score to give the Fish a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Guppies were on the Power Play to start the Second Half and it didn't take long for the fish to take advantage. Off the opening faceoff Millen won the puck to Brian Kelly (1-2-3) who skated in and fire a low hard shot to the far corner. The Guppies continued to roll when Jason Zito (1-1-2) came around the back of the D-5 net and found Mulcahy in the high slot. Brian would fire a "laser" into the upper right side of the net. Guppies up 4-0! District 5 tried to get on the board but Linskey stone walled them several times. "Joe made some great saves tonight" stated Guppies forward Marc Crayton "I just wish he could do that every game". Linskey would lose his shut out bid when D-5 forward D. Patemostro scored with just 3:19 remaining. The Guppies would get that goal back two minutes later when Kelly made a "hail mary" pass to Zito, who went in to score on a breakaway. The Guppies went on to celebrate their fourth straight victory as District 5's tough times continued
The Guppies face off next Tuesday night (7/18) against the always strong Fire Ants. Game time is 8pm and a limited amount of tickets are still available.
