Fink Returns: Guppies Blow Past Cyclones 6-3

Glastonbury, CT July 28, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2010 season.

07/28/10- Wednesday night was a special night at the Zrink as Steve Fink (0-1-1) No, not Pete Fink! Steve Fink....his older brother....the one that hasn't won a championship...no....not the guy in the Guppies Hall of Fame, the other one! Steve apparently made a strong appeal to the people over at the "Make a Wish Foundation" and next thing you know he's in the lineup. Asked to explain how this happened Guppies PR Manager, Carl Rackie, simply replied "We needed the money!"   Even with the pre-game laser light show the Guppies remained focused with the task at hand, which was, trying to go 5-0 to start a season for the first time since the Summer 2005. Standing in their way the Cyclones! Things didn't start out well for the Fish as the quickly found themselves down 2-0 late in the First Half! Things started to look up as a Marc Crayton (0-3-3) pass found Brian Kelly (4-0-4) sending the Guppies Captain in on a 1-on-1 towards the Cyclones net. With a little bit of luck, Kelly got through the defenseman and roofed a shot into the net. The duo would hook up again, this time with a little help from Rob Murphy (0-3-3) to make it a 2-2 game. The Cyclones quickly answered to regain the lead. At the Half the Guppies trailed 3-2!

Steve Fink played well, especially considering he played his last roller game about six years ago. Keith Millen (0-1-1) commented "I saw Steve fall only once! I mean Crayton normally falls at least twice a game."  Fink had several scoring opportunities but failed to convert. He was quick to blame his line mate "If Kelly could've made some better passes who knows what would've happened?" Kelly responded "Yeah, I'm sorry I kept hitting his stick. I'll put them in his skates next time".

The Guppies tried to pull even in the Second Half as they started to control the play. Jon Stevenson (1-0-1) would finally tied the game at three. Stevenson made a great individual play coming off the boards,  skating across the Cyclone's crease, and burying the puck. The Guppies would take their first lead of the night, with just over Eight minutes remaining, as the Crayton/Kelly connection found the net again. Brian Blair (1-0-1), who had his best game since his return, scored his Second goal of the season, to give the Guppies a commanding two goal lead.  Kelly would score again to secure the victory and lift to Guppies to 5-0 on the season.

SIDE NOTES:

- Brian Mulcahy and Joe Linskey were healthy scratches
- Dave Armenia is Out for the remainder of the season after tearing a ligament in his elbow. The Guppies have moved Dave to the IR to free up some Cap space.
- Greg Marshall got his Second straight Win as a Guppies netminder bringing his overall record in Guppies Blue to 2-2-0. I'm hoping against hope he wins the MVG Award over Linskey this session.
- Steve Fink played his first game with the Guppies in over 13yrs! Fink last game with the Guppies was on 7/13/1997 vs the Underdogs. A game that was played at the Waterbury Dek Center and the Guppies Won 6-3! Fink had played a few seasons with the Guppies Minor-League Affiliate The Charlotte Pigeons back in 2004.
