Glastonbury, CT June 23, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2010 season.

06/23/10- The Guppies had an impressive debut in the ZRink D-League Wednesday night with a 7-3 victory over the Squirrel Kickers. The Guppies scoring started early (something we haven't seen in awhile....Thank you D-League!) As Keith Millen (4-1-5) was hanging out in a fimiliar spot. Right around the other team's blue line. Mills caught a great, and very long, pass from Jason Zito (0-1-1) to walk in on the break away. The Gupps made it interesting, after going on the Power Play. A miscommunication between Jon Stevenson  and Brian Kelly (0-1-1) lead to a short handed breakaway. Joe Linskey got beat on the 2nd shot he faced, Can you say THIRTY PACK?! Luckily, Mills was still working on his "Hanging" skills as he score his second goal of the night, which looked exactly like his First. Keith scored the Hat Trick minutes later as Brian Mulcahy (0-1-1)started singing "D-League Super Star" to the music of "Getto Super Star"....that's an older rap song by Mya and ODB....forÂthe younger readers out there. The Kickers made it 3-2, as they apparently didn't get the memo that they were suppose to rollover in honor of the Gupps D-League debut. Tim Poulin (2-0-2) scored late in the Half to give the Fish a 4-2 lead and some much need breathing room at the break.

The Second Half started with Marc Crayton (1-2-3), yeah Marc Crayton!,  tapping in a rebound past the Squirrel's netminder. The SKer's scored to make it 5-3 as they just wouldn't go away. Mills scored again to give the Fish another three goal lead. The Guppies played much of the game in the Kickers zone, however, whenever Linskey was called upon late in the game he answered the bell. Tim Poulin sealed the victory with an empty net goal and the Guppies fans took the streets in celebration.

The Guppies faceoff against ESPN next week at 8pm. The two teams met in the Fall 2005 season with ESPN beating the Guppies twice (8-6 and 7-5).

SIDE NOTES:

-Dave Armenia was a healthy scratch Wednesday night.

- Brian Blair made is comeback official Wednesday as the Guppies lowered his number from the ZRink rafters prior to the game.

- There are some some fimiliar faces in the D-League. The Guppies have games against several past opponents (ESPN, Dead Goalies, Cyclones)
