Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT Aug 20, 2009. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2009 season.
8/20/09 - The Guppies
went into there contest with the Avalanche ranked 2nd in the Standing and had
a great shot to make the playoffs, if the planets, the stars, and all the zodiac
signs lined up. The play-off scenarios were so ridiculous that the Guppies
may have made the play-offs if they had just fore fitted the game, but that's
not how the Guppies and Guppies Nation roll. Unfortunately for the Guppies and
Guppies Nation, none of the above lined up. The Guppies had a total of
5 skaters and Joe Linskey in between the pipes. Linskey making only his
second start of the season was outstanding in the 1st half allowing only 3 goals
on 31 shots. The Guppies tried multiple line combinations in the 1st half
but they failed to get on the board. The Avalanche would score 3 more
goals before the Guppies would get on the board with Tim Poulin (2, 0) scoring
the 1st of his two goals unassisted. The Guppies would score again when
Dan Pequita (1, 1) would score after being set up by Jason Zito (1, 1) and Marc
Crayton (0, 1). The Guppies would score again as Jason Zito was set up
by Dan Pequita and Keith Millen (0, 2). At this point the Guppies began
to show the wear of having only 5 skaters and Linskey started to wear down from
the avalanche of shots as the Avalanche would score 4 goals to the Guppies 1
throughout the remainder of the game. Game over and season over.
Several Avalanche fans were fanatics (that's the polite way to say they were
classless) during the game and it made Jason Zito wonder out loud, do they
have anything better to do on a Thursday night other than heckle people? Long
time Guppies Assistant Captain, Marc Crayton responded by saying, "At the end
of the day, after all the wins, the winning streaks, the championships,
the loses and the losing streaks, Guppies Nation realizes it really is only just
a game. Guppies Nation is special because they get it and because
they win and lose with dignity."
The Guppies would like to thank their fans for all the support during the 2009 Campaigns. We'll see you in 2010!
SIDE NOTES:
- Brian Mulcahy, Dave Armenia, Brian Kelly, Rob Murphy and Jon Stevensonwere healthy scratches
- Heads are rolling in the Guppies front office. After the worst year in team history, the Guppies have announced the firing of GM Shasta McNasty. McNasty had been with the team since 2002
- Time for a change? Guppies Captain Brian Kelly was asked if roster changes are need after the Guppies imploded in 2009. "That's not up to me" stated Kelly "However, I wouldn't be shocked if changes come."
-"Suns Out Guns Out" or the "Blair Factor"? Could either have saved the Guppies from collapse Thursday night?
