Armenia was excited to play his first game in Puck

Guppies Side Step Blue Foot 11-7!

Glastonbury, CT June 16, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

June 16, 2005 - The Guppies entered a new era on Thursday night as they took to the dek for their first game in Puck. After amassing an 116-37-3 record in ten years of Ball play the critics were unsure what to expect. It didn't look good for our beloved fish when .26 seconds into the game Blue Foot scored to take the one goal lead. The Guppies stayed focused and continued to adapt to their new environment and at the15:58 mark Tim Poulin (1-3-4) scored to tie the game at one. Only seconds later Brian Kelly (4-2-6) picked off a Blue Foot pass in the neutral zone skated in and fired a shot into the net.  With the Guppies up 2-1 the teams went back and forth as Joe Linskey made some great saves after his shaky start. Later in the first Kelly would pick of another Blue Foot turnover and walk in on a breakaway "Kelly brought back 'The General' on that play. It Kelly's only move on a breakaway" stated Linskey in a post game interview. The flood gates started to open as Jason Zito (1-2-3) scored and then Kelly added two more goals before the end of the half. Guppies were in control half up 6-2 and out shooting Blue Foot 24-16.

In the Second Half Blue Foot kicked it up a notch and really went at the Guppies. Blue has a reputation of a team that is never out of a game. They almost came back to beat the Mad Dogs in last seasons Championship game after being down by several goals. Blue would score .15 seconds into the Half to cut the Guppies lead to 6-3. Later in the half Zito fed a streaking Dan Pequita (3-0-3) with a great pass which Dan buried for his first of the night. The two teams would trade goals as Pequita scored his second of the night with just over five minutes remaining. With the Guppies leading 8-5 Rob Murphy (1-2-3) would take a pass from John Carroll (0-1-1) and bury a shot from the point. Pequita would make it 10-5 with just under two minutes remaining. However, Blue Foot never gave up and scored twice in .11 seconds to make it an 10-7 game. With just over a minute left in the game Blue Foot pulled their goalie for the extra skater.  The Guppies made it 11-7 as Marc Crayton (1-2-3) took a pass from Poulin and scored the empty net goal.

Fans in Killingworth let out a big sigh of relief as the Guppies won their first Puck game in team history. Several Guppy players seemed to like the Puck "It easier to make and catch passes, but at times it's tough to settle" stated Jason Zito he added "We look forward to continued success"
