Guppies Surf Through Riptides 12-2!

Glastonbury, CT July 21, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

July 21 2005 - The Guppies continued the winning ways on Thursday night as they beat the Riptides 12-2. The Guppies started early as they scored only ten seconds into the game. Up 1-0 the Guppies came alive midway through the first half as they scored 4 goals in a three minute span. However, the fans were ltalking more about the goal the Guppies gave up in the same time period. The Riptides Pat Doyle scored on Linskey to make it 4-1 but it looked as if Linskey never saw the shot. "Joe never even moved on that shot" stated Guppies Defenseman Mike Halle. Linskey came to his own defense "I was looking at (John) Carroll after he and a Riptides forward went hard into the boards. I never saw the puck come out to Doyle, before I knew it, it was in the net!" With the score 6-1 and just over 7 minutes to play, Rob Murphy showed up at the Zrink! I guess its better late than never. However, Murphy was concerned with his tardiness "With this team (Guppies) you can show up ten minutes late and they might have a mercy win already".  The Tide would make it 6-2 before the Guppies scored two more to have a commanding 8-2 lead at the half.

In the Second Half the Guppies again struck in the first minute of play for the 9-2 lead. The blood was in the water and the Guppies began to swarm. Less than a minute later the Guppies were up 11-2 thanks to two quick goals by Tim Poulin.. The Guppies tried to get the Mercy Win but Riptides goaltender Jon Graney stood on his head for most of the second half. However the Guppies would end the game as Murphy setup Brian Kelly for the Guppies 12th goal of the night. Guppies win the game at the 11:01 of the Second Half.

The Guppies and District 6 faceoff next Thursday night 7/28/05 at 8pm in the battle of the Puck C undefeated teams. The Guppies are currently 5-0-0 while District 6 is at 6-0-0. Tickets for this game is sold out but the Zrink is expected to offer standing room tickets late on Wednesday night.
