Bad Fish: Guppies Play Makes Linskey Sick!

Glastonbury, CT July 14, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

July 14 2005 - The Killingworth Guppies came out Thursday night very flat and shorthanded. The Guppies would fall behind early in the game as Dead Goalies forward Kevin Bartos beat Linskey 5-hole. Things got worse for the Guppies only .36 seconds later as the Dead Goalies scored again to take the 2-0 Lead. Rob Murphy and Tim Poulin were late for the game Thursday night, both were held up at a pre-game autograph session in Rocky Hill. Marc Crayton (1-0-1) would make it 2-1 when he took a John Carroll (0-1-1) rebound and beat Dead Goalies netminder Jon Graney. The Guppies would tie it at two less than two minutes later when Rob Murphy (0-3-3) set up Jason Zito (3-1-4) for his first of the night. Midway though the first half Guppies netminder Joe Linskey (0-1-1) started to feel ill. "My stomach started to turn and it became really hot! At the ten minute mark I almost called for a timeout, but I decided to wait" Joe added "Now I know how a lot of Guppies fans feel when Kelly plays defense or Crayton is on the Power play. It's not good!"  Bartos would score again as the Goalies took back the lead....... 3-2. However as they did all night the Guppies fought back to tie the game at three when the Zito scored his second of the night. Killingworth would take their first lead when John Stevenson (1-1-2) deflected a Zito shot past Graney. Despite some questionable play in their defensive zone the Guppies lead at the half 4-3.

In the Second Half, Linskey was still feeling the ill effects of a Pizza Rolls dinner! The Guppies looked just as bad, as they gave up several odd man rushes. However, Linskey was equal to the task as was Crayton "he was one of the Guppies that played well in the defensive end" stated Guppies forward Dave Armenia. At one point, Marc back checked and then drove in front of a Dead Goalies shot......an early lead on the Selke Trophy? Just under 3 minutes into the half, Brian Kelly (1-1-2) would give the Guppies some breathing room when he crossed the blue line and fired a shot into the Goalies net. Zito would score the hat trick and seal the Guppies victory when he scored off a pass from Dave Armenia (0-1-1).

Despite the inconsistent play the Guppies managed to pull off the victory.  The Guppies face off against the Riptides next Thursday at 9pm. The game is sold out, as two of the Zrink's more popular teams square off.

SIDE NOTES:

- Dan Pequita, Brian Mulcahy were healthy scratches

- The second half of the game was delayed after Joe Linskey  became ill and had to leave the playing surface at the end of the first half. Joe returned but was still not 100%.

- Jon Graney the Riptides goaltender was actually in net for the Dead Goalies on Thursday night. The Guppies will get use to seeing Jon as they face off against the Riptides next week.
