Guppies Skate Past Monster 8-0
Glastonbury, CT August 25, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.
August 25, 2005- Thursday night the Guppies looked to turn their recent misfortunes around as the team has struggled in it's last three games posting a 1-2 record. Many in Killingworth have blamed the weak attendance by players for the Guppies recent skid but Team Captain Brian Kelly was quick to defend his teammates. "Summer season is always tough. Everyone is busier in the Summer and guys can't make every game". Thursday things didn't get any easier as Five players were out of the line up. However, the Guppies opponent was also very shorthanded as the Monsters only had 4 players. The Guppies controlled the game from the drop of the Puck. With the extra skater, the Guppies were able to more the Puck around well. Kelly (3-2-5) would score the "Natural" Hat Trick scoring the Guppies first three goals of the game. Brian Mulcahy (1-1-2) would score with just over one minute remaining to make it a 4-0 at the half. Despite having the man advantage for the entire game the Guppies never went for the Monsters jugular, instead they passed the puck around keeping the Monsters in the game.
The Guppies started the Second Half with Tim Poulin (1-2-3) scoring his team leading 19th goal of the season. Dan Pequita would pull off the Guppies second "Natural" Hat Trick of the night as he rattled off the Gupps next three goals. Not to be lost in all the scoring is the fact that Guppies netminder Joseph Linskey recorded two assists of his own. Not only that, he stopped all five of the Monster's shots on net.....Nice Work Joe!! (It's Linskey folks......Baby steps!) Down 8-0 late in the game the Monsters called a time out. Up until that point the Monsters and Guppies had played a very clean game despite the lopsided score. However, after the meeting at the bench the cheap shots started to fly. The emotions came to a head when the Monsters netminder swung his stick hitting Guppies forward Marc Crayton in the back of the head. A skirmish broke out after that incident in front of the Monster's net. When the smoke cleared, the game was called, several minor penalties were given out, Guppies forward Brian Mulcahy was suspended for one game, and two Monster player (including their netminder) were given a game suspension.
Next week the Guppies open the Summer 2005 Playoff season when they face off against Monster in the Quarter Finals at 8pm at the Zrink. Playoff tickets go on sale Saturday 8/27 at 9am
