Guppies Crunch Tacos 12-4

Glastonbury, CT Aug 5, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2004 season.

Aug. 5, 2004 - The Guppies haven't had the best season thus far in the Summer of 2004. They have suffered some close losses and haven't been in first place all season, a place the Guppies have found themselves in recent seasons. Thursday night the Gupps looked to get  their third win of the season.  Jason Zito had a strong outing scoring the opening goal just over 5 minutes into the game. It would be the first of three goals on the night for Zito. Brian Kelly would score only minutes later to give the Guppies the two goal lead. Tim Poulin scored at the 11:21 mark to give the Gupps the 3-0 lead early on. The Tacos would stop the bleeding for a second  but Rob Murphy would reopen the wound scoring two of his four goals late in the first half. With .38 seconds left in the half the Tacos would make it a 5-2.

To start the Second Half Murphy and Poulin would trade goals to increase the Guppie lead to 7-2. Murphy would score again at the 15:19 mark to answer any doubt about the out come of the game.  Jason Zito would add to the Gupps lead scoring the next two Killingworth goals.  Kelly and Dan Pequita would end the Guppies scoring as they traded goals late in the half. With the score 12-4 and only seconds remaining Tim Poulin would take a 2 minute penalty for roughing after receiving a cheap shot from a Taco. Despite his standing up to defend the good name of Killingworth, Tim's only reward was the honor of purchasing the 30-pack next week. Thanks Timmy!! The Guppies face-off next Thursday night at 10pm, yes 10pm again, vs the Dead Goalies.

SIDENOTES:

- Joe Linskey, Brian Mulcahy and Peter Fink were Healthy scratches on Thursday night.

- Peter Fink was called up to Killingworth on Wednesday after being sent down to Charlotte last week. Despite the call up Fink was not dressed for Thursday nights game.

- Craig Zito has only played two games in the Guppies Blue but rumors are flying that the team might send him down to Charlotte for a conditioning stint after Zito scored no goals on several opportunities Thursday.  Management said he might be suffering from "Kelly's Disease"

- The Guppies are again above 500 for the season. The last time the Guppies were below 500 was back in 2001 when the fish sank to a 3-7-1 record.
