ZRink's 16U's Smoke Guppies 9-6!

Glastonbury, CT April 22, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2008 season.

04/22/08- Its been a tough season in Guppies Nation and Tuesday night it wasn't any easier for the Killingworth Fans. Mired in their worst losing streak in three years the Guppies looked at the Zrink Selects team as a chance to turn the season around. The Fish weren't way off base on their thought process as their last win of the season came against the Selects back on March 18th (A 5-3 Guppy's Victory). However, wins in April haven't come easy for the Guppies, matter of fact, they haven't come at all! The Selects came out strong but Joe Linskey was able to keep them at bay, at least for a while.  Midway through the first half the Selects scored and went on to open up a 2-0 lead.  The Guppies finally broke through late in the Half when Dan Pequita (1-1-2) scored five seconds into a Guppies' power play. Pequita fired a great shot from the point after  Keith Millen (3-1-4) won a face off back to Rob Murphy (0-4-4) who quickly found Pequita.  The Gupps tied the score only .28 seconds later when, this time, Murphy found Brian Kelly (1-1-2) on the point. The Selects took the lead back quickly as they scored again .40 seconds after Kelly's goal. The Guppies had some fight and it was Jason Zito  (1-1-2) tying the game at three with only 1.53 remaining in the half.  At the Half it was all tied up 3-3!

In the Second, the Guppies hung with the fasterand better conditioned Selects team, they also got a lot of help from Joe Linskey! Unfortunately the Selects kept coming and when they scored they scored in bunches! In the 12th minute of play they scored twice in a span of .15 seconds. Millen scored his first of the night moments later at the Selects hung onto their 5-4 lead. Late in the half the two teams traded goals with both of the Gupps tallies coming from the stick of Keith Millen. Late in the Game the Guppies made a push but the Selects scored an empty netter to flush any hope of a Guppie's comeback! After the game the Guppies were obviously upset "We  seem to be able able to hang with these teams about 30 minutes of hockey then we stop skating" stated Guppies forward Marc Crayton "It might be time to make some changes".

The Guppies schedule doesn't get any easier as they face off against the Fire Ants next week. Game time is 7pm and a  limit amount of tickets are available.

SIDE NOTES:

- Tim Poulin was a healthy scratch Tuesday night.

- The Guppies established a team record for the longest losing streak in team history. The Guppies have lost 4 straight games and haven't posted a victory since March.
