Vipers School Guppies 9-2!

Glastonbury, CT April 15, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2008 season.

04/15/08- This season has suddenly taken an ugly turn for the Guppie's faithful. After cruising to victory in their first two games of the season, the Guppies have lost their last two, including a heartbreaking loss to the Ball Smashers in OT. It's not often that fans in "Guppie Nation" get to talk about a losing streak, but don't look now because here's your opportunity! Tuesday night the Guppies hoped to avoid losing their third straight game and tie a Guppies record for futility! In their way? A very talented, very young, Vipers hockey club. The Guppies came ready to play, however, things got ugly quick when the Vipers scored on their second shot on net! For all of you keeping count at home this is Linskey's 3rd 30-pack of the season......keep it up Joe! The Guppies were quick to answer as Keith Millen (2-0-2) scored his first of the game at the 15:34 mark of the first. The two teams played a fast tempo, end to end game, which allowed the Vipers to open up a 3-1 lead. Millen scored in the final seconds of the half to make it 3-2,  giving the Guppies a ray of hope.

In the Second half, those rays of hope quickly dissapear under a cloud of reality! The Vipers came out and scored 3 times in one minute and 28 seconds of hockey.  As the Vipers turned up the heat the Guppies seemed to fall apart and could never recover. The Vipers went on to score the Final six goals of the game and take the 9-2 victory. After the game, Guppies captain Brian Kelly was very candid with the press "We have a lot of talent in the room, however, we need to be better in the defensive zone and we need to get more than one or two guys scoring on a regular basis"  Rob Murphy also looked at the Guppies competition as a big reason for the Fish's recent struggles "The (ZRink) A League contracted this season, so a lot teams moved down to the B league. The games are on the same night so, it's an easy move for them. However, that's not an excuse,  We need to play better".

The Guppies schedule doesn't get easier as they face off against the ZRink Selects Tuesday night at 7pm. The Guppies will look to right the ship and get back to .500 for the season. Tickets are available.

SIDE NOTES:

- Guppies had a full Roster Tuesday night.

- The Guppies tied a team record for the longest losing streak in team history. They'll look to avoid history next week when they face off against the Selects

- Investment advice! If  Linskey keeps giving up goals in the first three shots of the game, he might want to invest in Anheiser-Busch stock! Chances are he's retire a rich man.
