Glastonbury, CT March
11, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth
Guppies Spring 2008 season.
03/11/08- The Killingworth Guppies opened their 2008 season right where they
left off last year with yet another convincing victory. The Fish made statement
last night to the rest of the league that, regardless of their aging lineup,
they are the team to beat. The team appeared to be in mid-season form with impressive
goals and extremely long shifts, which may catch up to them next week. Perhaps
most impressive was their movement of he puck after having had so much time
off. “The lineup that we have this year has been together now for quite
sometime and we have gotten used to playing with each other so much that our
passing is really starting to gel” said assistant captain Marc Crayton.
“The players really appreciate what the team owners have done to keep
this solid core of players together, we have some great chemistry and camaraderie
among this group” remarked veteran defenseman Dan Pequita.
The Gupps came out flying from the moment the puck dropped. Ten seconds into
the game Jay Zito would find the back of the net on a low wrist shot beating
the WPI goaltender for a 1-0 lead. Things just seemed to get worse from there
for the new B2 team as the Guppies continued to control the play and swarm the
net. “That’s just the way we roll,” said Brain “Bucci”
Mulcahy. “Fire it up baby” although he may have been referring to
something else we’re not sure.
The fish would light the lamp 10 more times on their next 13 shots giving them
an incredible 79% shooting accuracy. As a result goaltender Joe Linskey was
lulled to sleep by the lack of action and was unprepared for the first shot
he faced leading to WPI’s first and only goal. From then on he was solid
though turning away the remaining 7 shots before the game was called at 2:11
of the second half. The Guppy players tip their hats to the WPI for playing
hard throughout the game and keeping it clean as a game like that can tend to
get out of hand.
