OUCH! Guppies Smash Ball Smashers 8-6
4/1/2006- The Guppies thought Saturday night's game was going to be a walk in the park as the Ball Smashers started the game with only 3 skaters and a goalie. However, the Smashers quickly got reinforcements and took control of the game early. The Smashers would jump out to a 2-0 lead as the defensive duo of Murphy and Kelly were struggling to protect the defensive zone. "We got schooled tonight, 5 of their 6 goals were scored on us" stated Kelly in the post game interview. Despite the defensive lapses the Guppies would get themselves back in the game. Keith Millen (2-0-2) lead the way firing a low shot through the Ball Smasher netminder's five hole. However, The Smashers regained the two goal lead a minute later. The Guppies started to turn up the pressure late in the half and it was Millen again, who scored to get the Guppies in striking distance. With just over one minute remaining in the half Dan Pequita (1-0-1) would take a pass from Tim Poulin (2-1-3) and tie the game at three.
In the Second Half the Guppies started to roll the Ball Smashers as Jason Zito (1-0-1) scored just under two minutes in to give the Fish their first lead of the day. Only seconds later, Mark Abo (1-0-1) fired a high slap shot into the Smashers net. J. Miller scored to get the Smashers within one goal but Poulin would score the next two goals for Guppies. The Smasher's got the next goal as the capacity crowd at the Zrink were on the edge of their seats. With just over three minutes remaining Brian Kelly (1-1-2) would score to seal the victory for the fish. Joe Linskey, was back in form Saturday make several key saves early in the game to keep Killingworth in the game.
The Guppies have their second, and last, West Coast game next Tuesday (April 11th) as they face off against the Sea wolves at 11pm. The first hundred fans to the game will receive a complimentary box of California Raisins courtesy of the Killingworth Guppies and California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. See you then!
