Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT April 30, 2009. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2009 season.
04/30/2009- The Guppies looked to get over the .500 mark again Thursday night as the faced off against Pro Health. However, their effort wasn't there! For much of the first half the Guppies looked to be lost and just running around the rink. Leading to the team to go down 5-0 to Pro Health in the first 10 minutes of play. Again this week, the Guppies opponent scored four goals on their first five shots. However, the Guppies didn't have Joe Linskey to blame. Linskey notified the team on Wednesday that he would be able to play Thursday night. The Guppies scrambled and were able to secure the Fire Ants netminder (Scott). When asked to comment on the teams recent struggles, Guppies Captain Brian Kelly said "We're obviously not coming out ready to play. It use to be we'd always grab a lead then try to ride it out. Nowadays we're always trying to pull off the comeback." He added "It's very frustrating". Down by five, the Guppies started to show some life as Keith Millen (2-1-3) scored his first of the night. Unfortunately, Pro Health was quick to respond and opened up the five goal lead by the end of the Half.
Despite being down 6-1 to start the half the Guppies bench was up beat. The Guppies made a small roster adjustment sliding Tim Poulin (1-0-1) back to defense and moving Brian Mulcahy (0-2-2)up front. "I just asked Capt to move me up for a couple of shifts" stated Mulcahy "At that point we were looking to do anything to jump start our offense". The move paid of quickly for the Fish as Mulcahy set up Poulin for the Guppie's second goal of the game. The Guppies continued to swarm the Pro Health net but, they were turned aside time and time again by PH's netminder Greg Marshall. The Guppies would go on to out shoot Pro Health 38-27, but its the ones that go in that count! Speaking of which PH scored twice midway through the half to open up an 8-2 lead. Keith Millen scored his second of the night and Marc Crayton (1-0-1) scored in the final seconds of the game to make it an 8-4 game. However, their slow start killed the Guppies again.
Things don't get easier next week as the Guppies face off against Jimmy Stickhandle. JS beat the Guppies 7-6 in OT last month. Tickets are available for this game as the Guppies face a must win scenario.
SIDE NOTES:
- Jon Stevenson, Mike Halle, and Joe Linskey were healthy scratches. Dan Pequita is still on the IR with and Upper body injury.
- Clean Hockey: There were no penalties for either team Thursday night. That has to be a ZRink record!
