Guppies Announce Move to Puck

05/23/2005 -Killingworth Guppies SportsNet announced earlier today that the Guppies will be moving to Puck next season ending the organization's 10 years of play in ball leagues. The news didn't come as a shock to many Guppy fans and people involved with the game. "Rumors have been flying around for the past few weeks that the team might go to puck" said Clinton resident Greg McManus. However, for many it wasn't a hundred percent until KG SportsNet Director of Public Relations, Shasta McNasty, confirmed it in the news conference held earlier today.

In his statements, McNasty sighted the fact that many teams have made the move to puck in recent years as the main reason for the Guppies switch. "It has become obvious that more and more teams are moving towards the puck".  Competition was also sighted as a reason the Guppies look to move to puck play starting in Summer 2005. "Right now, we are playing in games where we win 11-1 or 10-0. Five out of our first nine games have been victories via the Mercy Rule, It's time for a change"  When asked if he felt the Ball league was inferior competition, Mr NcNasty took offense "We have never said that. The fact of the matter is their are several strong teams in Ball, Evil Sports, The Red Wings, and the Express, just to name a few." NcNasty continued "However, we are looking towards the future, and with solid teams like the Mad Dogs, Dead Goalies, and Brick Road Brawlers making the move recently, the writing is on the wall, puck seems to be the future of this game"

The Players had mixed feelings on today's announcement, Guppies forward Jason Zito "I'm excited about the news but at the same time I do have my concerns with the puck. A lot of guys say the puck doesn't move as well as the ball".  Rob Murphy seemed to be confident in the Guppies move to puck "Most of us have played ice hockey, which should help us in adapting to the puck game. I'm sure our success as a team will grow".  Goaltender Joseph Linskey will have the biggest change when the Gupps move to puck. "I've been expecting this move, especially after (Brian) Kelly called me up in January and told me to get goalie skates for Roller". Players like Marc Crayton, Dave Armenia, and John Carroll, who don't possess the ice hockey background like their fellow teammates don't seem to be worried about the change. "I think this is the right move for us, I can't wait to start the Summer season" stated Armenia, who was recovering at his home after having his tonsils removed.

NcNasty added that the Guppies plan to start the Summer 2005 season in Puck C. "We'll see how we do there, it will allow us some time to adjust our game. However, if we need to, we aren't afraid to move up to either B2 or B1".
