Guppies Wins The Pepsi Express Invitational

5/15/2005- The Killingworth Guppies won the Express Invitational beating the EMRHL (Eastern Mass Roller Hockey League) Allstars in the Championship game 4-2. The Guppies were very shorthanded for the tournament with only 7 players (6 skaters and Linskey) and it made for a very tough morning for our beloved fish. Mike Halle was originally on the roster but had to work, he eventually showed up........with 1:48 left in the Championship Game! Thanks for the help Mike!  Hal made up for his tardiness by supplying some beers after the tournament.

In Game one the Guppies face off against the EMRHL and it took about 15 seconds to go down 1-0. However, the Gupps would regroup and win the game. In game 2 The Gupps faced off against the Express and won 7-3. In between their 2nd and 3rd games the Guppies sat in the locker room questioning their off ice training! Even through they were 2-0 for the tournament things looked rough. It almost got worse when Linskey decided to wrestle Kelly over a folding chair. Guppies turning on Guppies, it was hell folks.

In Game 3 the Gupps faced off against the the EMRHL Allstars again. The Guppies had early leads as Brian Kelly scored twice "I was Awesome today!" said Kelly in the post tournament interview. However, the Guppies started to run out of gas late in the game. Eventually, The EMRHL took the lead and won  4-2. After the loss the Guppies needed to beat the Express to capture the number one seed in the playoffs and a much needed bye to the Finals. With a 3 minute break between games the Guppies tried to regroup and rest for their biggest game of the day. Fortunately for the Guppies, they were able to grab the early lead which they rode to a 4-1 win. Rob Murphy saw the number one seed as the key to the Championship "We had to win, their was no way we could have played 4 straight games"  Marc Crayton seemed worried about team mate John  Carroll "We needed to win because Johnny Blue Line's (Carroll) oxygen tank was running low"

In the end the Guppies saved their best effort for the Championship against EMRHL.  The Guppies would like to thank the Express and especially Ray Arnott, for the invitation to participate in the tournament and all their work in organizing everything.

Even though it almost killed us, it was a great day of hockey!
