Fire Ants Scorch Guppies 6-3

Glastonbury, CT October 25, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

October 25, 2005- The Guppies looked to get over .500 again as they faced off against the first place Fire Ants Tuesday night. Things started out well for the Fish as Keith Millen (1-1-2) took a pass from Rob Murphy (0-2-2) and fired it into the Ants net. The Guppies were being out played early on but Joe Linskey was the difference making some great saves to preserve the Gupps one goal lead. Things got a little tricky as Mike Halle and  Linskey were called for penalties only .58 seconds apart. The Guppies would kill off the Ant's 4 on 2 power play but the Fire Ants would tie the game at one later with the 4 on 3 advantage. Late in First Half the Guppies would go on the Power play as Brian Mulcahy  and the Ant's Pat Doyle got in a minor tussle at center ice. The Guppies took advantage of the man advantage when Jason Zito (1-0-1) redirected a pass from Brian Kelly (1-1-2) into the Fire Ant's net. At the Half Guppies were up 2-1!

In the Second Half Matt Zuba would score on a shot that beat Linskey on the short side to tie the score at Two. The Ants would score two quick goals in the middle of the half to give them the 4-2 lead. Late in the half the Guppies would go on the Power play with a face off deep in their defensive end. The Guppies ran the Pizza play as Murphy hit Kelly with a long pass down the left side of the rink. Kelly would walk in a snap a shot into the lower right corner of the Fire Ants net. With the lead cut to one the Guppies fought to tie the score but, the Ants would score again with just 2:32 remaining in the game. The Guppies pulled Linskey late for the extra attacker but Doyle would score in the empty net to give the Fire Ants the victory.

The Guppies face off against UConn next Tuesday night in a game that is shaping up to be a must win for the Guppies and their Playoff hopes. There are four teams fighting for the Final playoff spot (Guppies, UConn, Stingers, and ESPN). Only one will make it and the Guppies play each team in their remaining three regular season games.
