Glastonbury, CT October 18, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.
October 18, 2005- When The Guppies faced off against the Seawolves Tuesday they were searching for a much need win to stop their two game losing streak. Not to mention the Gupps were looking to improve their record and back to the .500 for the season. Early in the game the two teams traded scoring chances with the both netminders coming up big for their teams. John Stevenson (1-2-3) got the Gupps on the board first when he fired shot into the upper right corner of the SeaWolves net. The Guppies lead was short lived as the Wolves scored twice in only seconds apart. The Gupps regrouped and Sean Howley (4-0-4) stepped up scoring the next two goals to give the Fish the 3-2 lead. Late in the Half the Guppies exploded for three unanswered goals. First, Dave Armenia (1-0-1) tipped in a rebound to add to the Gupps lead. Nine seconds later Keith Millen (1-3-4) fired a shot past Mike Palleria, and finally, with just 1:34 remaining in the Half Howley scored his third goal of the night. The Late Guppies scoring frenzy left the fish in a good position at the half, up 6-2!
In the Second Half the play was again back and forth with several scoring chances and several great saves by the Goalies. With just over 15 minutes remaining, Howley would score yet again to give the Guppies the commanding 7-2 lead. The SeaWolves tried to get back into the game when Ryan Lair scored a minute and a half later. However, Joe Linskey was the difference down the stretch making some great saves that frustrated the Wolves offense. The only other really excitement in the second half was when Stevenson and Lair got mixed up in a misunderstanding. In the end Lair was smart enough not to go at Stevenson (that would have been messy) and John was awarded two penalties. The SeaWolves would score again with .09 seconds remaining but it was too little, too late!
Next week the Guppies face off against the Always tough Fire Ants! Game time is 8pm and tickets are still available.
