Guppies Beat UConn 4-3!

Glastonbury, CT September 13, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

September 13, 2005- The Guppies opened their Fall 2005 Season on Thursday night against UConn. The Guppies have moved up from Puck C to Puck B2 but apparently some of the Guppies players didn't get the message. The Guppies were very shorthanded with only 5 skaters at game time. One of the Guppies in uniform was rookie Keith Millen(0-3-3) who was signed by the Guppies only hours before game time. Jason Zito would show up in the second half to give the Guppies some much needed help. At the drop of the puck both teams went back and forth with both Goalies making some fantastic saves. As the Half wore on the younger UConn team started to take control of the play. Linskey was facing a lot of pucks but to his credit he was able to stone the UConn attack. The Guppies finally got a break when Millen passed the puck up to Brian Kelly (3-0-3) who would score on a breakaway. (Naturally Kelly broke out the General, the move he missed in last weeks shootout in the Championship game) With the Guppies up 1-0 they looked to escape the first half with the lead. However, UConn's James O'Brien had other ideas scoring two goals less than one minute apart. At the Half the Huskies were up 2-1.

In the Second Half, the Guppies were starting to show their age as the younger Uconn team just kept coming. Less than a minute into the Half the Huskies scored again to take the 3-1 lead. Down and out,  the Guppies were being out played and it didn't look good for our beloved fish. However, Less than a minute later Kelly would make an end to end rush, then beat the Husky's goalie on a move in the low slot. With some new life the Guppies were able to get some offense going. Rob Murphy (1-1-2) would tie the score at three when Marc Crayton (0-1-1) won a offensive zone faceoff  to Millen, who in then found Murphy at the point. Murph fired a low shot in the Husky's net.  With the score tied at three the teams went back and forth trading scoring opportunities. Late in the Half, Kelly looked to have scored the Guppies fourth goal but the his shot rang off the post. With under a minute remaining Millen would make a cross ice pass to Kelly would fire a bouncing puck into the UConn net. "Thank God Kelly scored that goal because none of us wanted to play an overtime" stated Dave Armenia in a post game interview.
